Champagne Cocktail Recipe
PRO TIP: Chill the Champagne, glasses, and gold liquor so you are ready for your party. And put the gold sugar rim on ahead of time so it has time to dry on the rim!
- Gold Shimmer Sugar
- Goldschläger Cinnamon Schnapps (or other Liquor with Gold Flakes)
- 1 bottle of Champagne (or Prosecco sparkling wine)
- 3-5 dashes of Angostura Bitters (optional, cuts the sweetness)
For these New Year's Eve Sparkling Gold Champagne Cocktails, I used Goldschläger liquor which does have a very small amount of real gold on it! It is measured to be about 13mg of gold in a 1-liter bottle, which, according to Wikipedia, is worth about $0.52. There are also other brands with real gold flakes; feel free to use those too.
Fun fact: Edible gold leaf is made from 22-carat, 23-carat, or 24-carat gold and silver alloy and is used in drinks, to decorate cakes, and for fancy desserts. Take a look at how I use edible gold in my Irish Coffee Drinks!
Gold Simmer Sugar is easy to find in cake decorating sections of craft stores or online. I found mine at HomeGoods! No, it isn't real gold, but it's fun to use!
How To Make Champagne Cocktails
Step 1: Dip the rim of your champagne flutes in water, and dip the rim in gold edible sugar. Set out two plates for this process: one for water and one for the gold edible sugar. Simply dip the rim of the glass in the water on one plate, and dip in the gold sugar on a second plate! Let the glasses dry for a couple of hours if possible.
Step 2: Pour one shot per glass of Gold Goldschläger or Liquor with Gold Flakes into the glass.
Step 3: Top with chilled Champagne or Prosecco. A few dashes of bitters to balance the sweetness.
More Traditional Champagne Cocktails
Classic champagne cocktails: These holiday drinks have been served for generations. You'll be a champagne cocktail pro in no time, in fact, a proper "Champagne Cocktail" is one of the IBA (International Bartenders Association) Official Cocktails. It is made with a sugar cube, 3 dashes of Angostura bitters, Champagne, brandy or Cognac, and a maraschino cherry or orange twist as a garnish.
Classic Mimosas: Are the perfect cocktail and great any time of year, from birthdays to special occasions like bridal showers, and of course to get in the holiday spirit! For a festive twist, make a cranberry mimosa and add some cranberry juice. You can also make a holiday mimosa using pomegranate juice for a pomegranate mimosas poinsettia drink and sprinkle in some pomegranate seeds!
Black Velvet: A black velvet is one of the most simple recipes, and is equal parts of stout and Champagne or cider without ice.
Kir Royale: This French cocktail or apéritif is served in a flute glass and is a variation on the Kir. It has crème de cassis topped with champagne, rather than the white wine used in a traditional Kir.
Cranberry Champagne Cocktail: Also known as a cranberry mimosa, and I have even seen them called a poinsettia champagne cocktail. These festive cocktails have cranberry juice, orange liqueur (triple sec) Champagne, garnished with fresh cranberries, and a sprig of fresh rosemary!

Ring in the holiday season with cozy glasses of Mulled Wine infused with warm spices, brandy, red wine, apple cider, sliced fruit, and honey. These are one of my favorite cocktail recipes, and so popular, it was published in a magazine!
Through the years, many cherished family holiday recipes have been at so many parties, and this one I make over and over. It is the best Christmas Punch recipe, sparkling with ginger ale (or use ginger beer) and its vibrant color that says holidays! But you need one perfect drink without booze! And the festive garnishes add the right tart flavor from fresh cranberries and lime juice slices. This holiday party punch will look great by your Christmas tree on a table with appetizers.
Candy Cane Martinis (aka Peppermint Martinis) are a great cocktail made with peppermint vodka (made from candy canes) that you can make at home or buy. Peppermint vodka makes an easy homemade, holiday, or Christmas gift. Cheers!
Fireball Punch big batch cocktails are made with orange juice, apple cider, and Fireball whisky that tastes like cinnamon red hot candies. All you need is a punch bowl or a large pitcher, no cocktail shaker here! And a few simple ingredients, fresh fruit garnishes of orange slices, apple slices, anise, and cinnamon sticks.
Fireball Whisky Cocktails are made with orange, cinnamon, cloves, apple cider, and cinnamon flavored whiskey. This popular liquor is so much more than to use for whiskey shots. It makes great cocktails, or how about adding a cinnamon Fireball shot into a cup of hot chocolate with whipped cream on those chilly nights!
A taste of Fall in every sip, these Aperol Spritz Cocktails have cider, Aperol, and fresh citrus juice topped with prosecco or Champagne bubbles. These refreshing drinks are great for brunch, happy hours, Friendsgiving, and Thanksgiving.
Hibiscus Tea Cocktails are low-carb, low-sugar, vegan, keto, and gluten-free. A healthier refreshing keto cocktail under 100 calories! Hibiscus tea has some wonderful health benefits and is a gorgeous bright color, and goes so well in these festive drinks.

These cocktails were so pretty and had an unexpected and pleasant little kick to them. I made them for a small birthday gathering and the girls loved them. They really made the evening feel extra special and with none of the extra work! Will definitely make these again.
