    Filet Mignon Steak Appetizer

    Bacon-Wrapped Filet Mignon makes a special steak appetizer for parties or special occasions. Pair it with a cool creamy balsamic horseradish sauce for dipping. It has a touch of spicy horseradish and a savory depth of flavor from the balsamic.

    For appetizer parties, pick a couple of hot cooked appetizer recipes and several cold dips or maybe a crudites platter. It's nice to serve a couple of things hot out of the kitchen during the party, and have other dishes ready to go, so you can dive into the yumminess...

    Filet Mignon Steak Appetizer Recipe

    Bacon-Wrapped Filet Ingredients

    PRO TIP: Drying the beef helps the filet sear in the pan. Use paper towels to dry the filet mignon and cut it into 1-inch pieces.

    • 1 pound filet mignon
    • ½ pound thin-sliced bacon ~ use fully cooked - 12 slices
    • salt and pepper
    • coconut oil spray
    • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce for basting

    Slice bacon strips into half, wrap around each filet piece, and push a toothpick through to hold them together. Sprinkle sea salt and pepper on both sides.

    PRO TIP: Use Fully Cooked Bacon - it cooks fast and doesn't splatter, also the filet will cook at the same time as the bacon.

    Next, spray a skillet or grill pan with coconut oil, heat to medium-high heat.

    Turn your kitchen fan on (and open a window) as the beef will smoke in the pan as it sears. I have set off my smoke alarm to make this recipe!

    Add several filet bites to the pan, careful to not crowd the pan. Sear for 2-3 minutes on each side. Sear and flip after a couple of minutes when they easily release. 

    Flip the steak pieces over to the other bacon side and saute for an additional 2-3 minutes until cooked to your liking. Brush with Worcestershire sauce to add even more flavor.

    Remove to a platter and serve hot with the Creamy Balsalmic Horseradish Sauce.

    What Is Fully Cooked Bacon?


    It is packaged and pre-cooked bacon strips within a resealable package. You will find it in the bacon section of the grocery store. It saves time and keeps the stovetop clean as you don't have to cook the bacon.

    There is no prep and no mess. It can be easily reheated and made crisp for use in recipes.

    Mix The Creamy Horseradish Sauce

    makes 1 ½ cups

    • 1 cup regular sour cream
    • ¼ cup prepared (white) horseradish
    • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
    • 1 tablespoon Dijon-style mustard
    • ½ teaspoon sea salt
    • ¼ teaspoon ground pepper
    • Dash Worcestershire sauce

    In a small bowl, mix the sour cream, prepared horseradish, balsamic vinegar, Dijon mustard, sea salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Cover and chill until serving.

    Use the leftovers on Roast Beef Sandwiches, totally incredible!

    Top Steak Appetizer Searing Tips

    • Use fully-cooked bacon: it cooks faster, gets crisp, and won't overcook the filet mignon it is wrapped around. 
    • Turn your kitchen fan on high as you sear the appetizers to manage the smoke. 
    • Work in bunches of 10-12 at a time, don't overcrowd the pan. This gives them all a chance to evenly sear.
    • Sear and flip after a couple of minutes when they easily release. 
    • The bacon-filet pieces will shrink up smaller as they sear in the pan. 
    • A cast-iron pan is best, but a stainless skillet will work as well. 
    • Don't use a non-stick skillet, you won't get the sear on the bacon.
    • You can use a cast iron grill pan or an outside grill with a small grate.

    • Combine the sour cream, horseradish, balsamic, Dijon mustard, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire in a medium bowl.
    • Set aside or chill until ready to use. If you have any leftover use on Roast Beef Sandwiches, totall amazing!

    Sear The Filet Mignon

    • Use paper towels to dry the filet mignon and cut it into 1-inch square pieces. Slice fully-cooked bacon strips into half, wrap around each filet piece and push a toothpick through to hold together. Sprinkle sea salt and pepper on both sides.
    • Spray grill pan or skillet with coconut oil, heat to medium-high heat. Turn your fan on high as the skillet will smoke, you might want to open a window as well.
