Why This Green Smoothie Recipe Works!
- Loaded with bright green color.
- Fresh nutritious ingredients.
- Smooth with natural sweetness.
- A tangy clean taste.
- Under 150 calories.
Here Is What You Need...
Let's Make This Green Smoothie Recipe
- Juice the pink grapefruits into a bowl using an electric juicer or a hand juicer.
- Peel and grate the fresh ginger.
- Place pineapple, frozen banana (unfrozen works fine!), chia seeds, spinach leaves, and grated ginger into a high-speed blender.
- Pour grapefruit juice into the blender.
- Blend until smooth.
- Serve in a tall glass with straw and grapefruit wedge garnish and a cute straw.
pineapple
Learn how to cut pineapples into chunks the easy way, and to serve at parties or freeze the pineapple pieces at home.
ginger
Be sure to grate the ginger because the fibers in the ginger don't break down in a blender well. A microplane works really well to grate fresh ginger. Use either a spoon or vegetable peeler to take the brown skin off, then grate away.
grapefruit
I used ruby red grapefruit that has a jewel-like color! So pretty, but any variety of grapefruit will work just fine.
bananas
Frozen works really well, I keep them in the freezer ready to go for smoothies. Try this as a great solution when bananas get too ripe. Peel the bananas, then pop them in the freezer inside a zip-lock bag and they are ready when you want them for smoothies.
chia seeds
As an option to chia seeds, try flax or hemp seeds. Any of these choices add fiber and some protein.
spinach and pineapple
You will want to use fresh spinach for your smoothie, frozen won't give the right color and has a different flavor. Fresh pineapple is also ideal, but frozen is just fine and easy to have on hand. You can swap out kale or swiss chard, celery, or parsley, for the spinach, but the color and nutrition will vary based on those swaps.
blenders
This recipe will work fine with any blender, the high-speed blenders do get smoothies, well....smooth! I find if I add ice, the high-speed blades do a great job of crushing the ice into that smooth texture, but any blender will work just fine. Even stick blenders are a quick and inexpensive option to make smoothies.
freezer prep
Put all the ingredients to make one smoothie in a zip-top bag and pop in the freezer. Example: fresh spinach, banana, strawberries, blueberries, and pineapple. When you want a smoothie, simply add into your blender with either milk, water or coconut water, or nut milk, some ice, and blend away.

Hey Sharon, so glad you made this green smoothie and thank you for the 5 star rating! It is a bit of work but tastes sooooo good and all those ingredients are clean and delish!
I love these so much! I am always looking for super easy ways to get extra greens. This smoothie was so good! I loved the grapefruit it w was so refreshing.
Such a delicious detox smoothie! So easy to make and super flavorful! Loved it.
These smoothies are spa worthy! I love pink grapefruit and have never seen it used in a smoothie recipe before. For me these were like a healthier tropical dessert smoothie. I am a happy, happy girl! I could see tossing all of the ingredients, except the grapefruit bit, into the freezer in a bag and juice the grapefruits ahead so I can just wake up and hit blend on hurried mornings (aka, all mornings). Thanks!
