Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte Recipe
This recipe will make 2 lattes. There is a step by step video in the printable recipe card below for you!
On the stove-top in a small saucepan over medium heat, add milk, pumpkin puree, and sugar. Heat up, blend, and stir with a whisk until hot, but don't let it boil.
Remove from heat, and whisk, use an immersion blender, or a milk frother to mix in the 1 tablespoon vanilla extract, 1 ½ teaspoon pumpkin pie spice, and ½ cup strong hot coffee.
Pour milk mixture into glass mugs and top with whipped cream and pretty Fall sprinkles...
Optional PSL Additions
Cold Brew Coffee: You can also make this a cold brew drink and put it over lots of ice!
Sweetener: To make it sweeter, add some natural flavors like maple syrup or honey. Add a few more grams of sugar, a drizzle of vanilla syrup, or a teaspoon Vanilla Extract.
Dairy Options: For the cup milk, you can swap in dairy free almond milk, coconut milk, oat milk, skim milk, or a non-dairy milk like soy milk for whole milk if you are on a lower calorie diet.
Extra Shots: Add in some more hot espresso shots if you prefer a stronger coffee from your espresso machine.
Gluten-Free: This PSL is gluten free, as there aren't wheat products in the ingredients, yay!
Pumpkin Puree: Read on to make your own at home, or buy it! By the way, pumpkin pie filling is a totally different product that you don't want for this recipe.
Fall Spices: Sprinkle a tiny bit ground cinnamon or grate some ground nutmeg over the whipped cream!
Pumpkin Spiced Latte FAQ
When you go to the store, you will see canned pumpkin and pumpkin puree are the same thing! These terms can be confusing to consumers.
Some cans will say solid-pack, and that is a puree that works for this recipe.
I suggest you buy organic puree with no additives or anything extra. Puree is a different ingredient for recipes than pumpkin pie filling.
Cut open the pumpkin or squash into large pieces and either boil, roast, or steam it until cooked.
Remove the skin, and mash or blend it into a puree in a bowl.
Use homemade puree in recipes in place of canned.
