Green food is a St. Patrick’s Day tradition for the luck of the Irish! 💚🍀 An all-green snack board is a super fun twist and a better way to celebrate with fresh vegetables, fruit, and a magical clean dip.
People will dance a jig as the bagpipes play, munching on these finger foods for after school snacks, a happy hour with friends, or a St. Patrick's Day party on March 17th.

Easy St. Patrick's Day Snacks
Part of the fun part of this Irish holiday is to turn everything green! Assemble your board with different layers, textures, and shapes of finger foods. Use four-leaf clover cookie cutters or shamrock-shaped cookie cutters to make shapes from vegetables, cheeses, and more!
Vegetables & Fruit Green Food List
Green Vegetables
Try some new veggies, pickled things, and cut the veggies in different shapes and textures. It's fun to add fresh edible herbs!
- bell peppers
- green beans
- fennel
- green onions
- fioretto cauliflower
- grilled, steamed, marinated artichokes

Green Fruits
For some of these fruits, just the skins are green, but it would also be fun to use a color theme of orange, green, and white like the Irish flag.

- Wash your vegetables and fruit, and grab a nice board or tray. I used a big tray that was my Mom's favorite.
- Cut your vegetables into sticks or use a crinkle cutter to get that wavy look to cucumbers, apples, and more.
- Use a shamrock cookie cutter and cut out a piece from a bell pepper to decorate your dip. These look great scattered all over the tray and tucked into little spots.
Magic Green Dip Recipe
With just a few basic ingredients and a few minutes, you can whip up an easy recipe for this creamy dip that can be either a vegetarian or vegan dip or even dairy free. The full recipe is in the printable recipe card below.
- avocados mashed
- Middle Eastern tahini or ½ cup Greek yogurt
- cold water
- lemon juice
- parsley leaves
- Italian seasoning
- garlic powder
- onion powder
- sea salt
- In a high speed blender, add water, yogurt or tahini, and avocados. Mix till smooth, stopping the blender, and scrap down the blender sides. Add chopped parsley, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, and sea salt.
- Or in a small bowl, mash the avocado smooth with a fork, add the Greek yogurt or tahini, and mix to combine. Add water to thin if desired. Add parsley, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, and sea salt. Mix and refrigerate. Will keep fresh for 1-2 days. Garnish with fresh chives or cut out bell pepper shamrocks to decorate.
St. Patrick's Day Treats
It's a great idea to add some little bites of cheeses, nuts, a few fun delicious snacks, and classic appetizers to munch on. Create your own Irish appetizers and turn things green like dips and desserts.
When all else fails, you can buy a dip from the store and add food coloring drops and open a bag of chips. Add your favorite St. Patrick's Day treats and festive foods to your lucky tray.
- green cheese -yes it is a real thing ~ try Trader Joes or other cheese shops
- white cheese slices - rolled, folded, or cut in shamrock shapes
- wheel of brie - cut out the center with a large shamrock-shaped cookie cutter and fill with shelled pistachios!
- Marinated Mozzarella Balls ~ toss in fresh herbs or drops of food coloring
- Sour Cream Party Dips ~ colored with food dye
- shelled pistachios or pepitas
- string cheese sticks - add some shamrock decorations or wrap a limerick joke around each one
- Natural Green Deviled Eggs ~ sprinkle herbs on top
- garnish with edible flowers, curly kale, and herbs
- add touches of real edible gold to your veggies!
Snack Board Sweets & Desserts
For your St. Patrick’s day festivities, you can always make one of your favorite Irish desserts, and buy a few things at the store. It is so much fun to have a few things to assemble and a fun way to decorate your tray if you want sugary snacks, here are some super cute ideas...
- rainbow lollipops and sour gummy candies
- candy treats like M&Ms, Hershey's Kisses, gummies, or rock candy crystal sticks
- Irish potato candies
- mint grasshopper pie
- gold covered chocolate coins
- gold foil-wrapped Rolo candies
- sweet treats like Cake Mix cookies (use St. Paddy's Day M&Ms)
- make some Lucky Charms leprechaun snack mix

The color green is linked to Ireland as far back as several hundreds of years. Originally, they had a solid emerald colored flag with a gold harp.
The island of Ireland is commonly called the “Emerald Isle” with vast green rolling hills throughout the country.
Green ribbons have been worn on St Patrick's Day since at least the 1680s for good luck in finding a leprechaun!
St. Patrick’s Day Green Recipes
Make a good Guacamole or creamy Avocado Salsa, or one of my favorites, Tater Tot Irish Nachos are savory appetizers topped with avocado so you get both potatoes and the green theme for a fun snack. You can add some pulled pork or crumbled salty bacon on top as well.
More St. Patrick's Day Recipes
Serve lucky drinks like green beer, Green Jello Shots, Irish mules, Shamrock Jigglers, or cheeky Green Cocktails made by a little leprechaun!
End the day with a delicious Irish Coffee complete with lucky shamrock sprinkles and real edible gold flakes, just like a pot of gold! You can add in a splash of some Bailey's or Irish Whiskey.
The easiest St. Patrick's Day dessert that is also no-bake, is Green Oreos. They are made with white chocolate chips and some food color or green candy melts. Then add in sprinkle shamrock chips for an easy dessert. Or for a quick dessert and easy treat, make Palmier Cookies, and dip them in chocolate just like the oreos!
For dinner, make some Irish stew in your slow cooker, and serve some good starchy potatoes like these Crispy Smashed Potatoes or classic Mashed Potatoes. And how fun would it be to color the mashed potatoes with food coloring! You can also make some savory muffins of Hash Brown Potatoes, a perfect start to your Saint Patrick’s day.
St. Patrick's day food dishes to go with your Corned Beef dinner on St. Patty's day can be these Roasted Cabbage Steaks with golden crispy edges from the olive oil, and some root vegetables like Glazed Carrots, Mashed Potatoes, Smashed Potatoes, Roasted Rosemary, or Red Potatoes. Cheddar Irish soda bread or Brown Soda Bread would be amazing with your beef brisket!
