Green food is a St. Patrick’s Day tradition for the luck of the Irish! 💚🍀 An all-green snack board is a super fun twist and a better way to celebrate with fresh vegetables, fruit, and a magical clean dip.

People will dance a jig as the bagpipes play, munching on these finger foods for after school snacks, a happy hour with friends, or a St. Patrick's Day party on March 17th.

May you find a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow on St. Paddy's day, and celebrate with these emerald green lucky delights...

  1. Wash your vegetables and fruit, and grab a nice board or tray. I used a big tray that was my Mom's favorite.
  2. Cut your vegetables into sticks or use a crinkle cutter to get that wavy look to cucumbers, apples, and more.
  3. Use a shamrock cookie cutter and cut out a piece from a bell pepper to decorate your dip. These look great scattered all over the tray and tucked into little spots.

St. Patrick's Day Treats

It's a great idea to add some little bites of cheeses, nuts, a few fun delicious snacks, and classic appetizers to munch on. Create your own Irish appetizers and turn things green like dips and desserts.

When all else fails, you can buy a dip from the store and add food coloring drops and open a bag of chips. Add your favorite St. Patrick's Day treats and festive foods to your lucky tray. And don't forget a touch of edible gold, so much fun and the best way to celebrate!

  • green cheese -yes it is a real thing ~ try Trader Joes or other cheese shops
  • white cheese slices - rolled, folded, or cut in shamrock shapes
  • wheel of brie - cut out the center with a large shamrock-shaped cookie cutter and fill with shelled pistachios!
  • Marinated Mozzarella Balls ~ toss in fresh herbs or drops of food coloring
  • Sour Cream Party Dips ~ colored with food dye
  • shelled pistachios or pepitas
  • string cheese sticks - add some shamrock decorations or wrap a limerick joke around each one

  • add touches of real edible gold to your veggies!

Snack Board Sweets & Desserts

For your St. Patrick’s day festivities, you can always make one of your favorite Irish desserts, and buy a few things at the store. It is so much fun to have a few things to assemble and a fun way to decorate your tray if you want sugary snacks, here are some super cute ideas...

  • rainbow lollipops and sour gummy candies
  • candy treats like M&Ms, Hershey's Kisses, gummies, or rock candy crystal sticks
  • Irish potato candies
  • mint grasshopper pie
  • gold covered chocolate coins
  • gold foil-wrapped Rolo candies
  • sweet treats like Cake Mix cookies (use St. Paddy's Day M&Ms)
  • make some Lucky Charms leprechaun snack mix
  • St. Patrick’s day snack mix ~ try my Snack Mix and use 💚 candies

Why are green foods served on St. Patrick's Day?

The color green is linked to Ireland as far back as several hundreds of years. Originally, they had a solid emerald colored flag with a gold harp.
The island of Ireland is commonly called the “Emerald Isle” with vast green rolling hills throughout the country.
Green ribbons have been worn on St Patrick's Day since at least the 1680s for good luck in finding a leprechaun!

St. Patrick’s Day Green Recipes

Make a good Guacamole or creamy Avocado Salsa, or one of my favorites, Tater Tot Irish Nachos are savory appetizers topped with avocado so you get both potatoes and the green theme for a fun snack. You can add some pulled pork or crumbled salty bacon on top as well.

More St. Patrick's Day Recipes

Serve lucky drinks like green beer, Green Jello Shots, Irish mules, Shamrock Jigglers, or cheeky Green Cocktails made by a little leprechaun!

End the day with a delicious Irish Coffee complete with lucky shamrock sprinkles and real edible gold flakes, just like a pot of gold! You can add in a splash of some Bailey's or Irish Whiskey.

The easiest St. Patrick's Day dessert that is also no-bake, is Green Oreos. They are made with white chocolate chips and some food color or green candy melts. Then add in sprinkle shamrock chips for an easy dessert. Or for a quick dessert and easy treat, make Palmier Cookies, and dip them in chocolate just like the oreos!

For dinner, make some Irish stew in your slow cooker, and serve some good starchy potatoes like these Crispy Smashed Potatoes or classic Mashed Potatoes. And how fun would it be to color the mashed potatoes with food coloring! You can also make some savory muffins of Hash Brown Potatoes, a perfect start to your Saint Patrick’s day.

St. Patrick's day food dishes to go with your Corned Beef dinner on St. Patty's day can be these Roasted Cabbage Steaks with golden crispy edges from the olive oil, and some root vegetables like Glazed Carrots, Mashed Potatoes, Smashed Potatoes, Roasted Rosemary, or Red Potatoes. Cheddar Irish soda bread or Brown Soda Bread would be amazing with your beef brisket!
