Easy no-bake Lucky Green (mint) Oreos are dipped in chocolate and sprinkled in green Shamrocks. Fun “green food” recipe for kids. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
We like to turn all kinds of crazy things green in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day on March 17th. So why not Oreos?
Melt the chocolate chips in a heat-proof bowl over a pot of simmering water or in the microwave. Add drops of green food color, and dip away! Try to cover all sides and place on a sheet of parchment paper. Sprinkle with green Shamrock sprinkles, and give a final drizzle of white chocolate.
Pretty darn cute and oh so green…serve on a nice platter with fun decorations like gold chocolate coins and small shamrocks. Super cute!
There are several new fun flavors to try, I used mint Oreos and the new Oreo Thins to make these green chocolate covered cookies.
Shamrocks vs. Clovers
And now a bit on Shamrocks vs. Clovers just because..well I was curious and thought you might be too!
A shamrock is a young sprig of clover, used as a symbol of Christianity of the Holy Trinity in Ireland. Saint Patrick, Ireland’s primary patron saint, used it as a metaphor for the Christian Holy Trinity. The name shamrock comes from Irish seamróg [ˈʃamˠɾˠoːɡ], which is the diminutive of the Irish word for clover (seamair) and means simply “little clover” or “young clover”.
However, other three-leaved plants are sometimes called shamrocks or clovers. The shamrock was traditionally used for its medicinal properties and was a popular motif in Victorian times.
The four-leaf clover is a rare variation of the common three-leaved clover. According to tradition, such leaves bring good luck to their finders, especially if found accidentally. In addition, each leaf is believed to represent something: the first is for faith, the second is for hope, the third is for love, and the fourth is for luck.
Wishing you a Happy St. Patrick’s Day and don’t forget to wear your green…and of course eat green food and drink green drinks!
