Candy Corn Halloween Jello Shots Recipe
Any true party will have a signature cocktail or shot for guests. A top tip is to be sure to serve them in the right plastic shot glasses! This is a simple recipe but needs some time to let the layers of the shots firm up. So plan ahead.
Jello Shot Ingredients
Yellow - Layer 1
- 3 ounces yellow gelatin box of Jello lemon Jello (yellow Jello)
- ¾ cup boiling water
- 1 cup vodka
- 3 whole ice cubes
Orange - Layer 2
- 3 ounces orange gelatin box of Jello orange Jello
- ¾ cup boiling water
- 1 cup vodka
- 3 whole ice cubes
White - Layer 3
- ¾ cup boiling water
- 1-ounce gelatin packet packets of unflavored gelatin come in 1-oz portions
- 3.3 ounces white chocolate Jello pudding with white gelatin layer
- 1 cup vodka
- 3 whole ice cubes
- optional garnishes: whipped cream, candy corn, and sprinkles
Instructions
- First, make space in your fridge for a tray or sheet pan. Set up twelve 3 oz plastic cups (shot cups) on the tray. You will pour the mixture into 3 separate layers. Yellow first, then orange, topped with white. PLAN FOR THIS: Chilling for at least 4 hours in between each layer until set! Cover with the plastic lids, and keep chilled overnight in the fridge. Don't freeze. Let's make candy corn jello shots!
- Set up a heatproof small bowl or mixing cup to mix the jello layers.
- NOTE: Jello packet instructions have you add cold water, you will be swapping in alcohol like vodka for that step, so disregard the package directions!
First, Make The Bottom Yellow Layer
- Boil 3 cups water in a small saucepan. Pour ¾ cup hot water into a heatproof measuring cup for your first layer.
- Stir in the 3 oz yellow gelatin lemon Jello packet into the ¾ boiling cup of water, and whisk with a spoon. Then add 1 cup vodka and 3 ice cubes. The ice helps chill the layer faster. The ice will melt fast, and when it does you are ready to pour. Pour the first yellow layer into each of the plastic cups. Fill the bottom ⅓ of the shot cup with the yellow mixture. Chill in the refrigerator for 4 hours until set, before you make the next orange layer.
Second, Make The Middle Orange Layer
- Reheat the boiling water. Pour ¾ cup hot water into a heatproof measuring cup for your second orange layer.
- Stir in the 3 oz orange gelatin Jello packet into the ¾ boiling cup of water, and whisk with a spoon. Then add 1 cup vodka and 3 ice cubes. The ice helps chill the layer faster. The ice will melt fast, and when it does you are ready to pour. Pour the second orange layer into each of the plastic cups on top of the yellow layer. Fill another ⅓ of the shot cup with the orange mixture. Chill in the refrigerator for 4 hours until set, before you make the last white top layer.
Finally, Make The Top White Layer
- Note: The order is important for this layer! To ¾ boiling cup of water add 1 oz of gelatin, and whisk well. The gelatin helps set the white chocolate pudding mix.
- Next, add 3.3 oz white chocolate Jello pudding mix, 1 cup vodka, and 3 ice cubes. The ice helps chill the layer faster. The ice will melt fast, and when it does you are ready to pour.
- Pour the last top white layer one each of the plastic cups. Fill the top ⅓ of the shot cup with the white mixture leaving a bit of room at the top.
- Carefully snap the lids on the shots. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, and preferably overnight. Wait until the jello shot is firm and doesn't stick to your finger.
Set Up Fridge Time & Garnishes
- When set, garnish with a dollop of whipped cream, candy corn, or sprinkles right before serving!
- SERVING NOTES: If kept at room temperature, they slowly soften and become melted in the cups. Jello Shots can last for seven to 10 days in a covered container in the refrigerator. For serving you can squirt some whipped cream, add sprinkles, or some candy corn on top of the white layer!
What kind of alcohol can be used for Halloween Jello Shots?
Different alcohols will change the flavor a bit so choose what you and your guest prefer.
- plain vodka
- coconut rum
- tequila
- cake vodka
- whipped cream vodka
- vanilla vodka
Best Halloween Jello Shots Small Plastic Containers
PRO TIP: Once your Jello shots are solid, with the lid on the top of the cup, you can turn them over to break the seal so they slide right out into your mouth!
Squeezable: Soft sided small plastic jello cups help release the shot and have a good time!
Portion Control: The ideal size for boozy Jello shots are to use small containers, like 3 oz small plastic cups. Buy your set of disposable cups online or at the grocery store in the Jello aisle.
Easy Stacking: There are lots of small containers and paper cups on the market like condiment cups like you get at takeout for salad dressings. Another option for Halloween Jello shots are these EZ-squeeze cups with a unique shape. What you want in your shot glass cups:
- Disposable
- Ones With Lids
- 2-3 oz Small Containers
- Stackable
Avoid paper cups or stiff sided ones as it's hard to get the shots to release unless you run a butter knife around the edge, and no one has time for that!
The white layer is actually a jello pudding layer with gelatin added to help it set. As an alternative, you can create a white layer by mixing sweetened condensed milk with gelatin and water.
