Decorate with one of these six fun Halloween-themed ideas, or create your own. Make a Jack-O-Lantern pizza, Dracula, Frankenstein, Monster, Mummy, or Ghost. During the month of October, throw an epic pizza night. The kids will definitely want to help make dinner this Halloween season...

    Halloween Pizza Recipe

With just a few simple ingredients, you can bake up little mini Halloween pizzas faster than calling Papa Johns or Chuck E. Cheese for pizza delivery! These might become a Halloween tradition in your home each year...

    Pita Pizza Ingredients

    • pita breads (flatbread or premade pizza crust)
    • pizza sauce (homemade, canned, or marinara sauce)
    • grated cheese (white or cheddar cheese)
    • black olives (or green olives)
    • pepperoni slices large or mini
    • cooked crumbled sausage
    • string cheese
    • real cheese slices (white-ghosts, orange pumpkins)
    • candy eyes
    • optional: mushrooms or red or green bell pepper

    Easy Pita Pizza Baking Instructions

    1. Heat oven to 400 degrees. Start preparing all your toppings.
    2. Place an oven safe baking rack on a large baking sheet pan, and each pita bread on the rack. Toast the pitas in the oven for 7 minutes until they are just firm and golden brown. This is the easier way to get them slightly crisp before putting your favorite toppings on.
    3. If you make your pizza sauce at home, mix a small 6 oz can of roasted garlic tomato paste with an 8-ounce can of tomato sauce, and a teaspoon of Italian seasoning.
    4. Spread a thin layer of sauce on each pita bread using a small brush or the back of a spoon, and decorate for Halloween.
    5. Place decorated Halloween Pita Pizzas on the oven rack over a large sheet pan, and bake for 7 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit until the cheese melts. After baking add some candy eyes, and serve warm!

Halloween Pizza Ideas: Toppings & Decorating Ideas

Mummy Pizza: Add some grated white cheese, then lay strips of cheese (string cheese) in a crisscross pattern, and add two black olive slices for eyes. Add candy eyes inside black olive eyes after it bakes.

Friendly Ghost Pizza: For a simple cheese pizza, add some grated cheese, then use ghost-shaped cookie cutters and cut a ghost shape out of a slice of mozzarella cheese, provolone, or Swiss. Add a small circle of black olive for the mouth, and add candy eyes after it bakes.

Pumpkin Jack-o’-Lantern Pizza: Add some orange shredded cheese then cut round pepperoni slices with scissors into triangles for eyes and nose, then cut them into smaller triangles for teeth on your pepperoni pizza.

Dracula: Add some shredded white cheese, chopped black olives for hair, green olives with pimentos for eyes, and slice a piece of curved red bell pepper for a mouth and tiny triangles for fangs.

Frankenstein: Sprinkle grated white cheese, and for a fun pizza add crumbled cooked sausage for hair, mini pepperoni for eyes, green olive on the neck for his bolts, a black olive nose, and red bell pepper pieces for his stitched mouth.

Monster: Sprinkle on grated cheese, big pepperoni for eyes, then two mushroom caps with small pepperoni on top, a black olive nose, then red bell pepper strips for eyebrows, and small triangle pieces for his teeth.

    Top Halloween Pizza Decorating Tips

PRO TIP: The candy eyeballs melt in the oven heat, so place them on right after baking!

Pizza Crust: You can make or purchase your own homemade pizza dough and bake it in a pizza pan or pizza stone with toppings. There are lots of pre-made crust products at the store ready to go, and even thin crust pizza products.

The pita bread makes it so fast and easy, saving time and getting to the good part which is decorating the pizzas. I got pita bread from my Trader Joe's store, but they sell them at most markets now.

Cutting Toppings: I found it is easiest to use clean kitchen shears to cut the pepperoni like for the pumpkin-shaped pizza . Moms can help kids do this or give them a clean small pair of scissors to use!

Spider Pizza Web: First, build a spider web with string cheese. Then for black olive spiders, make the bodies with whole black olives. Add some spider legs with 8 strips of black olives.

    What is pita bread?

The English word pita, comes from the Greeks. Pita bread is a round flat bread or leavened bread made with flour, water, yeast, and salt.

The dough is rolled flat, and baked in a hot oven. It originates from the Middle East and is found all through the eastern Mediterranean and in wheat-eating areas of Europe, Asia, and Africa.

    Notes

    pita bread

Purchase a good thin pita bread, and pre-toast the bread in a 400 degree oven for 5-7 minutes or so, this creates a nice crisp crust on your pita pizzas!
Don't bake directly on a baking sheet, use a wire rack to get the oven heat all around the pizza.
If you don't have a wire baking rack then pre-toast the pita bread on the oven racks and bake the pizzas there as well. Place some foil on the rack below to catch any drips!
