Low carb, low sugar, low calorie Strawberry Smash Cocktails are a healthy drink for date night, Valentine's Day, or on a hot summer day for your sweetheart!
How To Make A Heart Garnish for Strawberry Smash Cocktails:
Step 1: Simply slice the stem off, and cut the strawberry in half, lay it flat on the cutting board and press a small heart-shaped cookie cutter to make the heart garnish. Cut in tiny slice in the side, and slip on the glass rim.
It couldn't be more easy, right?!
A Word on Stevia in place of regular white sugar:
Stevia is a sugar substitute extracted from the stevia plant and is calorie-free which is wonderful. One thing to know about stevia that it is tastes so much sweeter than regular sugar, so a little goes a long way.
I use both the drops and stevia powder in recipes to save calories and watch my sugar intake. You can find these products right in your grocery store baking aisle, health stores, or online.
What do I need to make these Strawberry Smash Cocktails?
- 10 fresh strawberries
- 20 drops Stevia (liquid)
- 2-4 shots vodka
- 2 squeezes orange or tangerine
- 2 cups ice
- 1 splash sparkling water
- 2 halves strawberries for heart garnish
How do I make these Strawberry Smash Cocktails?
Step 1: Remove the stem, and cut a pretty red strawberry into two halves. Lay them on the cutting board, and use a small heart-shaped cookie cutter to make the heart garnish. Cut a small slit to place on rim of the glass.
Step 2: In a cocktail shaker, place several strawberries cut in half (or bits of strawberries from cutting the heart garnish) in the bottom of the shaker, and 20 drops liquid stevia. Use a wood muddle stick, and macerate the berries well.
Step 3: Add 2-4 shots of vodka, a good squeeze of orange/tangerine, and 2 cups of ice cubes. Place lid on and shake well. Pour into glasses through the strainer and garnish with heart strawberries on the rim. Add splashes of zero-calorie seltzer water and ice if desired.
Over the holidays I researched ways to make cocktails without all the sugar in syrup and came up with using stevia drops saving calories and making them friendly for those watching their carb and sugar intake. You won't miss a thing, and honestly, super sweet drinks are not as refreshing, so enjoy every sip of these healthier cocktails!
