    Who invented candy canes?

Candy canes might date back over 250 years!
As the folklore goes, the choirmaster at the Cologne Cathedral invented them to quiet the noisy children during his Christmas Eve church service of a Live Nativity. He asked a local candy maker to create some "candy sticks" for the children, and so peppermint candy canes were born.

Why are peppermint candies used for Christmas?

A recipe for straight peppermint candy sticks, white with colored stripes, was published in 1844. The "candy cane" is found in literature in 1866, though no description of color or flavor was provided. The Nursery monthly magazine noted them in association with Christmas in 1874 and the Babyland magazine mentioned canes being hung on Christmas trees in 1882 in the United States.

Hooray! I had a bunch of candy canes leftover from Christmas and so I made this candy cane vodka. I cannot believe it infused so fast and tasted so fun! The martinis were equally easy to make and like dessert, but I have also put it in hot cocoa and coffee with great results. Best part of this is that I am a year ahead knowing what I am giving to my friends for Christmas next year. Love the adorable presentation!
