Chocolate Cherry Hand Pie Recipe
Simple store-bought ingredients come together into a bakery style pastry, ready in 45 minutes. The rich chocolate and cherry filling is absolutely incredible. Each pie is topped with a sugary crust, with a crackled texture.
- 2 pie crusts homemade or store bought
- 16 ounce bag frozen dark pitted sweet cherries
- 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chunks (or semi sweet chocolate chips)
- 3 tablespoons corn starch
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
- ¼ teaspoon kosher sea salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For these hand pies, I found this heart-shaped press at Williams Sonoma. You can always simply cut out a heart shape in parchment paper, and trace it around with a small paring knife or pastry wheel or use a large cookie cutter.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pie dough. Cut the pie dough into heart shapes using a large cookie cutter, paring knife, or heart hand pie press. Reroll the excess dough, and rollout using a rolling pin.
- In a small bowl, mix the cherries, chocolate, cornstarch, sugar, lemon juice sea salt and vanilla extract. Give the cherry filling mix a good stir.
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
- Fill each hand pie with a small amount of filling about 5-6 cherries per pie, try to not overfill. Be careful to not overfill the press or pie hearts so they seal well.
- Place your filling on the bottom crust, place top crust, and press in hand pie press or crimp the edges closed with a fork.
- Sprinkle each pie with granulated sugar. This gives a nice crust, or brush with an egg wash glaze, or melted butter.
- Bake 400 degrees for 20 minutes, on a parchment lined baking sheet until edges are golden brown. Cool on a wire rack at room temperature.
- Optional, serve slightly warm and sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Absolutely delicious and easy to make. I used a heart-shape cookie cutter to cut out the pie crust and pressed them together with a fork. In LOVE with this delicious pie recipe!
