Ingredients

  • 1 loaf French bread or sliced bread
  • 6 oz sliced turkey
  • 6 oz roast beef
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise optional
  • 4 tablespoons dijon mustard or sub yellow mustard
  • 3 tablespoons horseradish spread optional
  • ¼ cup artichoke spread optional
  • ¼ cup cornichon pickles
  • 1 medium tomato
  • 5 leaves romaine lettuce
  • 6 large red radishes
  • 4 large green olives with red pimentos
  • 6-8 whole black olives
  • 12 candy eyeballs
  • ¼ cup pepperoncinis sliced
  • 5 slices cheddar cheese

Instructions

Halloween Sandwich

  • Slice the french bread loaf and open so both sides are flat. Use your choice of spread: mayo, Dijon, mustard, horseradish, or artichoke spread. Add lettuce, sliced meats of your choice, tomato, and pickles.
  • Next, lay the cheddar cheese (or cheese you like) on a board and cut pointed "teeth" using a round circle pizza wheel. Place the pieces of cheese on top of the other sandwich fillings, and place extra pieces of cheese on the lower part of the sandwich for lower teeth.

Edible Eyeballs

  • Bloody Red Radish Eyeballs: Using a vegetable peeler, cut away the red skin in strips without going too deep, it leaves a "bloodshot" eye look to the radish. Work in strips from the front of the eyeball to the back leaving squiggly red lines.
  • Using a ¼ measuring teaspoon, scoop out a place to put a cut piece of green olive with red pimento. Insert a toothpick, and stick into the top of the sub sandwich, it looks cute and holds your sandwich together! Slice and serve the sandwich cold.
  • Black Olive Eyeballs: NOTE - Put these together right before serving your sandwich, as the candy does soften and melt in the olives. Push small candy eyeballs into the whole black olives, and insert a toothpick. Put the eyeballs on top of the sandwiches in pairs, or use single ones!

Notes

Eyeballs

Put the black olive eyeballs together right before serving your sandwich, as the candy does soften and melts in the olives.

Halloween Sandwich Ideas

Healthy Halloween food can also be a lot of fun. These sandwiches are great for lunchbox ideas, after school snacks, or Halloween parties.
  • Bread: Use a large French bread loaf to make this for a big family or party. You can make these with plain slices of bread or English muffins for little kids.
  • Assorted Deli Meats: Make your own, or buy some sliced smoked ham, turkey, salami, sliced chicken, or roast beef.
  • Sandwich Spread: Dijon mustard, regular mustard, mayonnaise, horseradish spread, artichoke spread, or any sandwich spread you like.
  • Pickles: I used little cornichons, dill pickles or even sweet bread and butter pickles would be great.
  • Tomato: slice and pat it dry to keep the French bread from getting soggy.
  • Romaine Lettuce: Iceberg lettuce, or a spring mix would work well.
  • Large Red Radishes: pick large red radishes, these will be your "bloodshot eyeballs".
  • Green Olives: with red pimentos, these also make your eyeballs pupils.
  • Whole Black Olives: these will become eyeballs with candy eyes inside.
  • Candy Eyes: can be ordered online, and are inexpensive and so much fun for this recipe. They can be used in many creative ways!
  • Pepperoncini's: sliced and pat dry a little.
  • Sliced Cheeses: sliced with a circle cutter wheel makes the "cheese teeth" for your sandwich. Cheddar cheese, pepper jack, Colby, swiss, provolone, or mozzarella all work.
