Here are some of the most frequently asked questions that I get about Delicious Table.
WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR RECIPES AND INSPIRATION?
- my lifetime recipe collection
- what sounds good today?
- seasonal fruits and veggies
- Food Network shows
- favorite food blogs
- pool and football parties
- my 70+ cookbooks
- favorite restaurant menu items
- holiday traditions
RECIPE WRITING PROCESS I get inspired daily. Really. Either it’s the weather, the season, ingredients in the store, something growing in my garden, or just a craving. Many times a new recipe starts out with the words, “You know what sounds good right now?” and then before you know it, I usually go to my binders first, cookbooks second, and the internet third. Once I have a few recipes or ideas, I will start testing and writing down the changes as I cook and taste through the process. Google helps find ingredient substitutions, or to research an unfamiliar spice, I typically rewrite recipes so much they don’t even come close to the originals I have in my collection. After cooking for many years, you get a feel for ingredients and flavors and ideas for new recipes just seem to come faster and easier. I never seem to run out of inspiration to cook all those dishes I have dreamed up!
CAN YOU USE OTHER PEOPLES’ RECIPES ON YOUR BLOG?
Food recipes have been passed around for hundreds, perhaps thousands of years so recipes are meant to share! There are times when I use recipes on my blog, whether that means a recipe from my Mom, her friends, a favorite cookbook, or a Pinterest recipe that I really like. If I do make a recipe that comes from someone else, I will credit the source in the author section of the recipe. Baking recipes must be followed precisely, so often these recipes will be the same and the source credited. However, the fun of cooking to me is to make it my own, change it up! I like to switch out ingredients and spices to make it the best it can possibly turn out. Over the years, you learn tips and tricks to cook with maximum flavor, and I plan to share those ideas with you in the recipes, posts, and videos on the blog.
CAN I USE YOUR PHOTO OR RECIPE ON MY WEBSITE OR BLOG?
Thanks for asking!
Recipes – Sorry no not at this time, I do not allow republication of my post or recipe text without prior consent. If people copy and paste my recipes and republish them onto their websites, it will negatively affect how Delicious Table gets displayed in search results, which isn’t a good thing. Also, there are some copyright issues. If you have a specific inquiry about a recipe, please feel free to email me.
Photos without recipes – Yes! Sure! Thanks for sharing. Credit the photos with two links, one back to the recipe post and one back to delicioustable.com.
WHAT’S YOUR BACKGROUND IN FOOD?
As a home chef, I have been cooking seriously for over 25 years with a strong culinary training background and thousands of recipes in my collection. I come from a family who loves to cook, and my Mom was a Home Economics & High School foods teacher. Yep, you heard that right! However, I didn’t get a lot of kitchen and cooking time growing up (maybe she was tired of teaching teenagers when she got home? hmm). So well into my late 20’s I decided to learn to cook on my own so I could increase the odds of finally catching a husband and hey, it worked! Also, my “Aunt” Barbara was a cookbook writer, food stylist, and product demonstration cook, oh one other detail she trained with Simon Beck (as in Julia Child’s co-writer of Mastering the Art of French Cooking) in Paris in the 1950’s. Pretty cool huh? I was definitely influenced by all the talented cooks, good food, and fabulous entertaining my parents did in my early life.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE KIND OF FOOD? It’s a tough question for me, but if I had to pick I would say family style Mexican tacos just like my Mom made them! Homemade food has always been my favorite, its the taste + memories that I relish. I do love to eat out at a nice restaurant, but home cooked food makes me happy, happy, happy.
DO YOU HAVE ANY RECIPES FOR _________?
Probably! I will keep a list of requested recipes, and you might just see a post after requesting that dish! There’s a search bar on the right-hand sidebar that makes it easy for you to search for a specific recipe or recipe type. There are categories for different dishes and on the Recipes drop down menu.
DO YOU FOLLOW A PARTICULAR DIET?
I love food. Let me repeat that, I love ALL food. There is not much I don’t eat, but eggs are not my friend. Antony is never a picky eater, really, but garlic is not his friend. So he is just thrilled to have a home cooked meal anytime. I feel much better when I eat a plant-based diet, and it helps me keep my weight in healthier ranges.
HOW MANY TIMES DO YOU MAKE EACH RECIPE?
The recipes I share on the blog are tried and true recipes I have used for years and they are well-tested. If it’s a new recipe, I will make the dish 2-3 times. Each time, I adjust the ingredients, seasoning, cooking methods etc. until I like the results and my Chief Eating Officer Anthony approves.
All my paper recipes are in clear vinyl sheet protectors in binders by recipe type, season, holidays etc. I write on the recipes as I test and make changes and have done this method for years. It works for me. (Hey I started this before there was Pinterest!)
WHAT DO YOU DO WITH ALL YOUR FOOD?
We eat the food we blog about, and share with friends, family, and neighbors so it doesn’t go to waste! Some things I freeze using a Food Saver vacuum sealer and we eat as leftovers. Our home has lots of house guest, friends, and gatherings so someone always seems to show up hungry and ready to help us eat the food we make! : D
WHAT KIND OF CAMERA DO YOU USE?
Right now I use a Canon 70D camera body with a 24-105mm Canon Zoom lens. I love it for food photography!
DO YOU WORK WITH BRANDS FOR SPONSORED POSTS AND CAMPAIGNS?
Yep! I am happy to promote brands and products that I love (yes I must really love your product!) on Delicious Table. If you are a brand looking for a partnership, you can email me directly by the contact form at the top of the menu bar.
ARE YOU ON PINTEREST?
YES! (and I’m obsessed) What a dream to save all those ideas and inspiring projects on boards. We pin the blog posts so you can save recipes! I LOVE Pinterest.
Thank you for your respectful, friendly, on-topic comments. As a relatively new food blogger, I get excited to get comments each and every one of them. Because I want Delicious Table to be a positive environment for my readers, my family, and myself, I have and will remove offensive, inappropriate, or generally rude comments. We’re all food fan friends, so let’s be nice to one and other!
